The Ultimate List of Bear Weeks
Bear weeks are some of the most amazing gay events where everyone can celebrate body positivity and have a blast while meeting gay men of the same and similar tribes.
Since there are so many different bear weeks around the world, I’ve compiled this list of all the most notable events so you can find the perfect one to attend. They’re everywhere from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Australia, and even the Middle East.
For each of the bear weeks and weekends below, I’ll fill you in on what to expect, when they’re hosted, recommended hotels, and links to official event websites and social media.
#1 BeefDip Puerto Vallarta
BeefDip is the official bear week of Puerto Vallarta. It’s one of the longest-standing LGBTQ events of its type in this gay-friendly city, and is among the biggest bear weeks in the world!
By bringing bears and their admirers from all over the world, BeefDip has helped raise more than $100,000 for different Puerto Vallarta non-profits over course of its history.
BeefDip consists of eight days filled with activities like pool parties, the famous “Booze Cruise,” dance parties, karaoke, surprise performances, and music by international DJs. It all happens in late January into early February each year.

Bear Carnival in tropical Maspalomas offers a friendly and inclusive bear holiday in the fabulous Canary Islands. It’s the perfect bear week in Europe to attend during the Spring months.
Maspalomas Bear Carnival is a massive event, with around 40 events spanning 9 days. Some of the best include the yearly carnival parties, open-air dance parties in Yumbo Centre, floating disco boat cruises, pool parties, and daily sex parties. There’s even a sex party on a boat!
You can enjoy calmer events at Bear Carnival too, like relaxing spa evenings, cheese & wine tastings, scenic tours to colonial towns, bear yoga workshops, and speed dating.
Attendees are so talkative that making friends is easy, which is typical in Maspalomas. It’s a fantastic option for solo travelers or those who haven’t been to a bear week before.
Maspalomas is home to one of the popular Axel Hotels locations, a well-known gay hotel chain in Europe. Consider staying at AxelBeach for Bear Carnival!
#3 Asbury Park Bear Invasion – New Jersey
The Jersey Shore has its very own bear weekend called the Asbury Park Bear Invasion! Bears gather every year at the gay-popular Asbury Park Beach during the third weekend in August.
Weekend events include the Welcome Tea Dance as well as the Plunge Pool Party at Asbury Park’s adults-only Empress Hotel, the Furball Dance, Bears on the Beach, and dance parties at the local Paradise Club.

#4 Bears Sitges
Bears Sitges is another one of the most popular gay bear weeks in the world—one with a ton of diversity among LGBT visitors. While you’ll certainly find bears, there are also plenty of chasers, otters, cubs, and even their ally friends at many of the events.
Held in September, bear week in Sitges has a fun, high-energy, and sexy atmosphere along with an overall positive attitude among guests. One of the main reasons for this bear week’s success is the care and mutual respect everyone has for each other.
Bear Village is the beachfront event space where the action happens. It’s essentially a pop-up extension of the street for dancing, drinking, and socializing each evening from 8 PM to 3 AM.
Carrer de Joan Tarrida is transformed into “Bear Alley” during bear week. This is the street is where the Sitges gay bars are located—another notable spot where everyone meets.
On your trip to Sitges, I definitely recommend a stop in Barcelona! There’s no doubt many guys will be also staying here for bear week.

- Where to Stay: Hotels for Gay Travelers in San Francisco
Bearrison Street Fair provides an inclusive and welcoming environment for the bear community in San Francisco. The event promotes inclusivity, body positivity, and cultural diversity. It also aims to shine a light on the businesses of the historic LEATHER & LGBTQ+ Cultural District.
They have some hilariously unique events, including the “Barbells, Bears, and Butts” deadlift contest, twerking contest, and a wrestling event with an actual ring set up in the street.
Epic local DJs and all sorts of performers always create an awesome vibe at Bearrison. Notable performers include The Boys of Bearlesque and the queer Latin punk band, Muñecas.
#6 Bearly Athens
Bearly Athens is a brand new bear week in August hosted by Athens Bears, the city’s local bear social group. I’m so excited that Greece now has a yearly bear celebration!
Events are both authentic and energetic. During the day you’re welcome to enjoy the queer art show, a private pool party outside of Athens, a demonstration by the local queer rugby team, and drag performances.
Nikolas, the founder of the Athens bear week, mentions how the Booze Cruise boat party to nearby Agistri Island was especially memorable—”Food, drinks and incredible music had us all dancing while jumping in the sea from the boat. So much fun! ”
In the evenings, dance the night away in your sexiest underwear at the UnderBear Party, head to the sweaty dungeon party, and attend Purple Night, a musical institution of the Athens bear community.
The week comes to an end at the UnBearable Farewell Splash, where everyone says goodbye, until next time!

#7 Provincetown Bear Week
Bear Week in Provincetown is among the largest bear weeks in the United States, attracting LGBT+ travelers from all around the country as well as other world cities.
Bring your dance party gear for the Bear Boat Sunset Cruise, socialize at all-day pool parties like Otter Pop, and carry on at the Boatslip Tea Dance. Other typical events over the week include Bears on Bikes, nature walks, and parties like the singlet tea dance.
Ptown’s biggest bear week is definitely what you make of it. Some European tourists have mentioned that while the vibe is fun, it’s not as carefree as bear weeks in Europe.
While it’s plausible many gay guys at dance parties and such may be more guarded, I would say taking part in some of the group excursions and activities will give you a friendlier experience.
Stay up to date by following the Ptown Bears and the Ptown Business Guild Instagram accounts.
#8 & #9 Spooky Bear and Hibearnation Provincetown
Provincetown has several other bear weekends every year in addition to their main bear week. So, no matter what time of year you want to travel to Ptown, it’ll be pretty easy to connect with other bears!
Spooky Bear Halloween Weekend is the bear event of the fall, filled with costume parties and a haunted house. In the springtime, the Provincetown Out of Hibearnation bear weekend celebrates the end of winter.
You can learn more and connect with other guys for both these events by joining the Spooky Bear & Out of Hibearnation Facebook group.
#10 Bearsurrection Fort Lauderdale
Bearsurrection is the official bear weekend of Fort Lauderdale hosted each spring. Their mission is to re-establish Fort Lauderdale as a premier city for both traveling and local bears of the gay community.
Events run from Friday to Sunday including themed parties like Fashion Bear at the local Hunters Nightclub in Wilton Manors, and an amazing pool party at the Bearsurrection partner hotel. I thought the Bobo bear runway show in 2022 was so adorable!
If you’re headed to Bearsurrection, consider staying at one of these clothing optional Fort Lauderdale gay resorts!
wolfyy’s Fort Lauderdale gay travel guide covers even more local favorites including popular gay bars, clubs, and bathhouses.
#11 Bear Pride Tel Aviv

#15 Mad.Bear Beach Festival Torremolinos
Mad.Bear Beach Festival is another one of the most carefree bear weeks ever, taking place in the fabulous gay resort town of Torremolinos.
It’s one of the biggest events produced by Mad.Bear, which also hosts individual bear parties in other Spanish cities like Valencia and Madrid, which I’ll mention in the section below.
The parties at Torremolinos bear week are nonstop, with over 20 events spanning 10 days. Daytime events include boat parties, pool parties, and themed parties.
Gorgeous men crowd the local gay beach in the late afternoons in front of the famous Eden Beach Club, socializing and dancing to the DJ’s beats. After midnight, the party is only beginning at the local Mad.Bear club space.
No matter whether you’re visiting Torremolinos for Mad.Bear or not, you have to stay at the popular all-gay Ritual Hotel Torremolinos or the affordable sister gay resort, Hotel Sireno. I had an absolute blast here.
#16 Mad.Bear Madrid
Parties are hosted at Madrid’s New Incognito Club as well as Ya’sta Club and Cocó. You also can’t miss a stop at Bears Bar during your visit. And while you’re exploring the nightlife, wear a sexy gay harness!
Aside from dance parties, you can participate in nightly bar crawls, gay sauna meetups, and organized bear dinners at Mad.Bear. And no matter where you go, bears and their friends are bound to be cute—one more reason why Madrid is one of my favorite cities in the world.
Find local recommendations for hotels, gay bars, saunas, and more in wolfyy’s Madrid gay travel guide.
#17 Sugar Bear Weekend Montréal
Sugar Bear Weekend is a bear event in Montréal filled with Canadian lumberjack cliché-titled events like Sugar Shack and Maple Drag Brunch. Their Mr. Bear Montréal contest is the unmissable main event, followed by the popular Bear Party.
Most people get an all-inclusive ticket for access to all the main events in addition to entry to events like Bear Soup, a get-together at one of Montréal’s gay saunas.
Events at Sugar Bear Weekend are organized by Bear It, the local Montréal bear association. They’re incredibly friendly and super helpful with answering any questions.
Want to stay in Montréal’s gay village? One of the most popular gay bed and breakfasts in the neighborhood is Maison Des Jardins B&B. See more options for where to stay in wolfyy’s Montréal gay guide.
#18 Bear Tubing – New Braunfels, Texas
Bear Tubing is a gloriously unique end-of-summer bear weekend packed with nature activities. Floating down the Texas Comal River in a flotilla of connected inner tubes is an absolute blast for everyone. The water is fresh, and the bears are friendly!
You don’t have to be a typical bear to attend, either. Bear Tubing also welcomes tribes adjacent to the gay bear community. So if you’re a twink, grow a beard or mustache and join the otters or cubs!
To attend, register on Bear Tubing’s website, reserve your tube, and pick out some sexy swimwear to show off at all the outdoor events.

Atlanta Bear Fest is a bear run and charity event weekend hosted by Southern Bears. Days are filled with poolside games, dancing to the DJ’s upbeat mixes, and group meals at local restaurants.
After sundown, everyone convenes at a local bar for dancing, competitions, and meeting new friends. Some guys hang back and continue to enjoy the pool at the host hotel by night, swimming under the moonlight.

Reykjavík Bear Week is a four-day festival that happens in late August into early September, coinciding with Labor Day Weekend in the United States. It’s packed with local tours, where the bears experience the magic of Iceland while making lasting friendships and memories.
Everyone is oriented at Thursday’s welcome party. On Friday, the bears embark on a day trip to experience the historic Þingvellir National Park, the surrounding geothermal areas, and the Gullfoss (Golden) waterfall. In the evening, have a blast being shirtless at the “Top-Off” party.
Saturday follows a similar schedule, with a day trip to the world-famous Blue Lagoon for a calming soak in the turquoise waters. Then get ready for the main party of Iceland’s bear week on Saturday evening.
#21 Key West Bear Weekend
Head to Key West Bear Weekend for one of the best bear events of the fall. Down in this tropical gay paradise, the pool parties never stop. A majority of the events are held at Island House, one of the most popular Key West gay resorts.
In the evenings, you can’t miss the Mr. Key West Bear Contest, the Key West Leather Ball, or the Bear World Magazine birthday celebration.
Bring along a sexy jockstrap, too—you’ll need it for the nighttime jockstrap pool party.
#22 Fire Island Bear Weekend
Fire Island Bear Weekend has the same event organizers as the Key West Bear Weekend mentioned above, and you can be sure both these bear weekends are among the gayest festivities around.
It’s held in June and from Thursday through Sunday with events including daily bear beach days, tea dances at the Ice Palace Club, and sexy nighttime circuit parties.
Decide where to stay in Fire Island Pines for Bear Weekend as early as possible. House rentals fill up far in advance and become quite pricy as summertime starts, especially for these kinds of event weekends.
#23 Sardinia Bear Weekend
Sardinia Bear Weekend may be one of the lesser-known bear weeks, but that shouldn’t stop you from joining the fun on this dreamy Italian island.
More than 15 events over four days in the middle of summer all take place in Cagliari, a town on the southern coast of Sardinia where the local gay life thrives.
Sardinia Bear Weekend events include guided city tours, social aperitivo gatherings, the crowning of Mister Bear Sardinia, and fun, themed events like “Hungry Beasts – Don’t feed the Drag!”
See more information on the Sardinia Bears Facebook.
#24 The Urban Bear – New York City
The Urban Bear is held each September in the streets of Manhattan in New York City. It’s a one-day event down in the West Village, New York’s original and historic gay neighborhood.
While New York City’s top bear event has more of a local vibe, you can bet on seeing a ton of sexy, self-loving bears all around.
The crowd here tends to be mixed, attracting both local bears, lots of their admirers, and other people from the local LGBTQ+ community who just want to celebrate sexy big guys!

It’s the signature local bear gathering of the winter season with four days of pool parties, comedy acts, and high-energy dance parties with well-known DJs. Everything takes place at Hotel ZOSO.
Weekend passes come in two types: a standard-level “Weekend Run Pass” or the VIB (Very Important Bear) Pass.
While both grant you access to all weekend events, the VIB Pass includes early access to the pool parties, entry to a VIB-only pool area, and other cocktail and food perks. Discuss with others about it on the IBC Facebook page.
If you choose not to stay at the event’s host hotel, I recommend booking a room in one of these popular clothing optional Palm Springs gay resorts.
#27 Bear Your Soul – Easton Mountain, New York
Bear Your Soul events are retreat-style gay bear weeks held at Easton Mountain, a resort in upstate New York. They bring together guys of all shapes, colors, and sizes for two event weeks each year: a summer retreat over Labor Day weekend, and a Winter Hibernation retreat in January.
Activities include dance parties, hot tub and sauna time, movies, and more. You can partake in massage exchanges, sexy dance classes, yoga sessions, and empowering workshops like the “Loving Our Bear Bodies” naked experience of group affirmation and touch!
Bear Your Soul founder Freddy Freeman says “I spent over a decade going to bear runs around the country, and they were a lot of fun. They give guys an opportunity to dance, have erotic connection, socialize, and unwind. I wanted to create something that would provide all of that while going a little deeper. Our events also focus on boosting confidence and body image, fostering meaningful connections with yourself and others, and providing a supportive and welcoming community.”
#28 Bear Summer Berlin
Bear Summer Berlin happens from Wednesday to Sunday, always straddling the last Saturday in June. The celebration has a local feel, with streetside cookouts and picnics in the park during the daytime.
The UNSHAVED party Bear Summer Edition happens on Saturday night—always the highlight of the weekend!
Other events during Berlin’s bear week vary from year to year. The program is usually announced only a few months before the event since all of the event’s organizers are volunteers and plan Bear Summer in their spare time.
